Founded in 1984, Brazil Watch was conceived as a frank, original and no-nonsense briefing on Brazilian events, designed specifically for professionals in the areas of business, law and government. Coming out every two weeks, Brazil Watch went beyond newspaper and wire service reporting to include in-depth reporting on politics, detailed coverage of economic trends, and specific reports on businesses and business sectors.
Publisher and editor Richard Foster was born in New Orleans, LA and lives now in Gaithersburg, MD. After earning a B.A. in English literature from Yale College and an M.A. from the Columbia School of Public and International Affairs in New York, he worked as a journalist for the Associated Press, the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times. He lived in Brazil from 1985 through 1996, co-founding Brazil Watch, and working as a foreign correspondent. As a Brazil expert he has been interviewed by CNN and National Public Radio and been quoted frequently by the New York Times, the Washington Post and other leading US publications. A consultant on Brazilian economy and political risk, he worked for the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, Exxon and Boyden. Currently, in addition to producing Brazil Watch 24 times a year, he teaches in the English and Communication Design department at the University of Baltimore.
